摘要:In this talk, I will delve into the concept that "the interface is the device," as famously stated by Dr. Herbert Kromer, Nobel Laureate in Physics in 2000, renowned for his contributions to semiconductor heterostructures in high-speed and opto-electronics. I will discuss our approach to designing advanced functional material interfaces, known as heterostructures, using computational methods based on first-principles quantum mechanics calculations, high-throughput computational techniques, and open quantum materials databases. Specifically, I will share our recent research progress on achieving perpendicular magnetic anisotropy at interfaces between ferromagnets and insulating barriers.

报告人简介:

Dr. Kesong YANG is full Professor in the Department of Chemical and Nano Engineering at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). He received his Ph.D. degree in Atomic and Molecular Physics from Shandong University, China, in 2010. Before joining UC San Diego in 2013, he worked at Duke University as a Postdoctoral Researcher and co-developed the high-throughput materials discovery tool AFLOW and the largest quantum materials database AFLOWLIB.org with AFLOW Consortium. His research interests include computational studies of functional materials and algorithm development for high-throughput materials design. His current research focuses on the high-throughput design of perovskite-based functional materials and materials interfaces.
